Description

Size: 7.4-8.8mm
Basic colour: Black, with two large transverse red spots on each elytra.
Number of spots: 2
Pronotoum: Wider than long, densely punctured with large pores only, and pubescent.
Leg colour: Black.
Confusion species: Panagaeus bipustulatus

Biology

Status: Very scarce. Widely distributed but local in England, as far north as Lincolnshire, south Wales and south Ireland.

Habitat: Litter, well-vegetated fens and dune slacks, always near water.
Other notes: Elytra pubescent, striae moderately punctured, intervals flat.
