Some counties have local ‘county beetle recorders’, who have access to a reasonably complete and up-to-date list of species records for their area, and should be able to advise when a record is new for a county or vice-county. They may not be able, or willing, to check identifications. Recorders now much prefer e-mail. If you are still using the postal service, it is courteous to enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope if you require an acknowledgement.
