Son of Harry (see below). Born in Hunsonby, Cumberland and died at Ledbury, Herefordshire. Also lived in Surrey, and at Whitby where he was a nurseryman. . Johnson (2009) records that his interest in Coleoptera was largely restricted to his earlier days in Whitby (1933-38), and that there is a photograph of him as an active Dipterist in the NHM. He published four notes on the Coleoptera of Whitby and District in The Naturalist, 1934-1938, one of which was written jointly with W.J.Fordham. Johnson (2004) cites a collection of c.1000 specimens made by Britten which was accessioned by the Manchester Museum in c.1938. (MD 11/09)
