DAVIS, William Beverley

Lived in Stroud and collected assiduously Coleoptera from 1902 to 1923 in the vicinity with occasional visits to the Forest of Dean. Atty (1983, v.) records that Davis's collection and diary are in the Bristol City Museum and that 'it is a pleasure to consult Davis's work after the nebulous dubieties of earlier collectors, once is idiosyncratic coding of localities is deciphered. His records are copious and meticulous...the great majority were correctly identified, even some rare species; the exceptions were either queried by Davis himself or are in difficult or subsequently revised genera.'  Gave  (MD 5/02, 8/07)
