Journals

Beetle News

Beetle News is a quarterly (March, June, September and December), online publication and less experienced amateurs are encouraged to contribute articles and observations that may not be suitable for more formal publications.

Entomologist's Monthly Magazine

The Entomologist's Monthly Magazine is a British entomological journal, first published in 1864. The journal publishes original papers and notes on all orders of insects and terrestrial arthropods from any part of the world, specialising in groups other than Lepidoptera.

Although its name would suggest otherwise, it is currently produced only four times per year by Pemberley Books, as of 2007.

Latissimus

Organisations

Amateur Entomologists’ Society

The Amateur Entomologists' Society (AES) is one of the UK's leading organisations for people interested in insects. Entomology involves learning about insects and the environment.

British Entomological and Natural History Society

The Society was founded in 1872 as the South London Entomological and Natural History Society and since its inception has always included amongst its members many of the leading entomologists of the day. Over the years the membership of the Society has increased to include not only residents of the London area but entomologists living all over the British Isles and abroad.

Coleopterists Society of Britain and Ireland

ColSoc is the Coleopterists Society of Britain and Ireland, dedicated to the study of beetles. Our aim is to further beetle research, standardise and promote recording, and to develop and encourage public awareness and conservation of the 4,000+ species of beetles found on these islands.

Identification

Bark and wood boring beetles of the World

Information and images of economically important beetles that feed on cambium layer or wood of living or recently killed trees and shrubs.

Ground Beetles of Ireland

This web site is based largely on the book "The Ground Beetles of Northern Ireland", Anderson, R., McFerran, D., & Cameron, A., 2000. This site is another step along the way to encouraging interest in Irish ground beetles. It extends the book by including more illustrations of the species and providing a means to produce updated distribution maps.

ID signpost

The "ID signpost" is a searchable database of books, online resources and other materials relevant to identifying wildlife. The link will take you to a list of all the beetle-related resources, but you can use the ID signpost for other species groups as well. If you register with the ID signpost you can add further resources to the list, helping it grow to become a comprehensive guide to wildlife identification. ID signpost is a Tomorrow's Biodiversity project from the Field Studies Council.
