The following is taken from Atty (1983), iii-iv: 'An antiquary who lived in Wotton-under-Edge for most of his life and collected local insects of many groups, but after 1875 especially Hymenoptera. He compiled a manuscript list of the Glos. beetles for the Victoria County History, submitted to them in January 1903 but never published. I have a copy of this, made by R.S.George. In Bristol City Museum are some eight preliminary notebooks with beetle records, four of which are apparently a rougher draft of the others: I have copied all these.

Atty (1983, iv-v) describes Morse as 'An exasperating mystery. In [C.F.] Lifton's [q.v.]1940 list...numerous uncommon species are attributed to "Newnham: Morse" with no details whatever apart from an occasional otiose "rare" (The number of rarities is astonishing: with some genera one gets the impression that all the rare species have been ticked off, and anything less common omitted). Many of these species, moreover, appear in Perkins' [q.v.] list for "Newnham" but with Lifton, not Morse, as the contributor.

Lived in Gloucester and compiled 'The first list of the Coleoptera of Glos.' for the Cotteswold Naturalists' Field Club in 1940 containing 1055 species. Atty (1983, v) notes that his main contributors were named as Morse, Lifton, Watkins, Davis, Rev. C.J.Nash, Rev. G.M.Smith, Edwards, C.G.Clutterbuck and C. Nicholson and that 'the great bulk of this manuscript is based on Davis's captures, along with the enigmatic Morse records.

Atty (1983, iii-iv) records that Harding was a contributor to V.R.Perkins list of Gloucestershire beetles and that he was active as a coleopterist c.1880. (MD 8/17)

Atty (1983, vi) records that George lived in Gloucester and 'in the period 1953-63 devoted prodigous efforts to Gloucestershire entomology of most orders, especially fleas and beetles, tracking down original notebooks, lists and collections in various Museums... getting specimens identified by national experts, publishing summaries and collecting in many orders himself. Some of his specimens are in Gloucester Museum and some records are mentioned in Cotteswold Naturalists' Field Club Proceedings, but much of the Coleoptera material was lost soon afterwards' (MD 8/17)

Born in Kendal, Cumbria and educated at Sheffield University where he completed his studies in June 1983. Has published 'Insects in Skye', Bulletin of the Amateur Entomologists Society, 1980; 'Some less common beetles taken in south Lakeland, Bird Report, Cumbria Natural History Socity publication, 1981; 'Leistus rfomarginatus (Dufts.) from the South Yorkshire Pennines', Ent,mon.Mag., 118, 1982, 68; and 'Cymindis vaporariorum (L) from a coastal bog in Cumbria', ibid, 119, 1983, 150.

Published 'Adults of Longitarsus jacobaeae (L) defoliating ragwort' in Ent.mon.Mag., 111, 1975, 129, at which time he worked in the Entomology Department of the Glasshouse Crops Research Institute, Littlehampton, Sussex. Also published on Diptera and Lepidoptera. (MD 8/17)

A doctor. He is listed in the Naturalist's Directory, 1904-7, as interested in Coleoptera alone. His address is given as c/o J.F. Dutton, Gorse Hill, Selsby. Letters from him are preserved in the Sharpe correspondence at Liverpool. (MD 8/17)
